Most people go through their day with thoughts scattered all over the place. They think, “Oh I need to do this” and “I need to do that” and they end up doing neither this or that because their mind is so disorganized.
They go through their daily lives without any idea what to do. They are reactive, rather than proactive towards the tasks and activities they face. Everything is urgent. The only thought going through their head is “ I don’t have enough time.”
Our culture is becoming more aware of the power of working smarter, rather than working harder. Those who work smarter outperform those who work hard because working smarter maximises resources.
Having the power to direct your thoughts to what is most important is an essential skill to develop in order to work smarter. It’s extremely helpful to be able to develop a system that takes charge of your day. That way you know exactly when your meeting for the day will be or you know exactly who you’ll be speaking with tomorrow. It’s all about the power of optimisation.
When you’re able to optimize your thoughts and systems, you’ll be able to track the progress you’ve made. You’ll be able to see exactly how your commitment and perseverance are paying off. You must put optimization strategies in place for your work, your business, and your life.
This is great and all, but the question is, where to begin? First of all, what you need to do is to schedule a “house-cleaning.” When I say a house-cleaning, I mean you should set aside time to clear your mind. The systems you apply in your day-to-day life and even in your business begin with an effective thought process. It begins with clearing your mind.
Set aside the time to do this clearing process. Create a block of time to formulate a process for yourself where you can start organizing, not only your thought process, but eventually the systems for your work and personal life.
Prepare a workstation with the appropriate space, furniture, and tools. When your space is properly set up and organised, it could actually reduce your unconscious resistance to dealing with the clutter in your mind. In fact, having an organised space and a designated time of day to deal with this can make it attractive for you to sit down and push through.
For a lot of people, setting aside time over the weekend to do this can help you a lot. This can take off the pressure of rushing off to work. While it doesn’t take an entire weekend, blocking at least two days to clear your mind and build a new system for yourself can be beneficial for you.
As you clear your mind and start rebuilding your thought process, begin to make an inventory of details that you have in there. In the course of optimizing your thought processes, you will benefit from making a list of everything. Write it down, become more organized, get it out of your head.
List the details that should guide the system you want for your life. Take note of your dreams, your goals in life, the ideas you have, and the concerns you want to address. When you’ve identified these things, you’ll be able to spell out what’s important for you.
As you list your dreams and goals, write down the corresponding activities you do on a daily basis that allow you to achieve these things. This will help you see what you’re actually doing everyday to step closer to the life of your dreams.
It’s very helpful to have a time to declutter and to regroup on a regular basis. This practice will help you evaluate if you’re going on the path you’ve intended. Remember the significance of taking the time to just clear out your mind of all the worries and concerns you may have so that you will not lose sight of what is important for you in your life.
